Today I bought 2 steak knives and 2 dessert forks. I bought them by mail order in a sale. It was a spontaneous buy. What compels a woman to buy these things? Is it genes, is it socialisation? Do men have the same compulson? Do most women??

A woman and her husband are sat on a train bemoaning his mother.
She feels that his mother's generation - who were teenagers during the war - just seem to be into play. Although she can't be sure if it's the whole generation that's like that, or just the people her mother-in-law knows.
